Getting deeper with
In Vitro Fertilization

Each year, thousands of embryos, no bigger than the head of a pin, are created through In Vitro Fertilization (IVF).

IVF is the most effective fertility treatment. It’s a multi-week/month process in which eggs are collected from a female’s ovaries, fertilized with sperm in a petri dish, cultured in a lab for a few days (typically 3-5), and then transferred into the female’s uterus to develop for the rest of the pregnancy.

To create more and better-quality eggs, sperm, embryos, and a receptive uterine lining, IVF is combined with a variety of pharmaceutical treatments. Let’s find the right treatment to kickstart your parenthood journey with BHF.

Couples who have been trying for months

Conventional IVF or Intracytoplasmic Sperm Injection (ICSI) are the perfect choice to hopeful couples who have already been trying for a month or more, subject to initial diagnosis and series of medical tests.

Women with irregular ovulation cycles and other reproductive health complications

Outside medications that can help the uterus lining should be considered along with different IVF treatment process. Ideal to women who suffer from PCOS, Endometriosis, Adenomyosis, etc.

Same sex couples

Reciprocal IVF or third-party IVF are the best options to consider that can bring your dreams to life.

Male factor infertility

Take your first step toward parenthood at Beverly Hills Fertility

BHF’s purpose is always beyond aiding in creating life — our team’s mission is to uphold the essence of the basic unit of society. Once you enter BHF, you will no longer be clients. You would be treated as partners, being future stewards of life, maintaining the strong foundation of our society.

Throughout your treatment process, a dedicated care coordinator will be involved to ensure every aspect of your fertility journey will be well-managed, alongside with your chosen doctor. Your treatment process will be highly personalized, from a team of nurses to medical tests, all will surely fit exactly what you and your partner need.

Here are a number of steps in the IVF cycle you may explore to fully understand the treatment process.

1
Evaluation & Preparation

Before starting your personalized IVF journey, several medical tests will be required to determine proper diagnosis and cycle for your unique case. You’ll meet with you care-coordinator as well as the team that will help you along your parenthood journey to discuss and arrange everything in each step.

2
Ovarian Stimulation

The first step in an IVF cycle is to use synthetic hormones to stimulate the ovaries to generate multiple eggs rather than the single egg that normally matures each month. Multiple eggs are essential since some eggs will not fertilize or develop normally following fertilization.

3
Egg Retrieval

Egg retrieval can be performed 34 to 36 hours after the final injection and prior to ovulation. You will be sedated and given pain medication throughout the egg retrieval procedure. The eggs are extracted from the follicles using a needle attached to a suction equipment. Mature eggs are incubated in a nutritive liquid (culture media). Eggs that look to be healthy and developed will be combined with sperm to develop embryos.

4
Sperm Retrieval

If you’re using your partner’s sperm, you must provide a sperm sample at your doctor’s office or clinic on the morning of egg retrieval. Masturbation is typically used to get a sample of sperm. Other procedures, such as testicular aspiration (using a needle or surgical procedure to extract sperm straight from the testicle), are occasionally necessary. It is also possible to use donor sperm. In the laboratory, sperm is isolated from sperm fluid.

5
Fertilization

Embryo transfer is normally performed 2-5 days following egg retrieval. Attached at the end of the catheter is a syringe holding one or more embryos suspended in a little volume of fluid. The embryo or embryos are inserted into your uterus using a syringe by the doctor. If everything goes well, an embryo will implant in the lining of your uterus 6 to 10 days following the egg extraction.

6
Embryo Transfer

Embryo transfer is normally performed 2-5 days following egg retrieval. Attached at the end of the catheter is a syringe holding one or more embryos suspended in a little volume of fluid. The embryo or embryos are inserted into your uterus using a syringe by the doctor. If everything goes well, an embryo will implant in the lining of your uterus 6 to 10 days following the egg extraction.

The IVF Umbrella

In Vitro Fertilization is a broad umbrella that refers to any procedure in which fertilization takes place outside of the body. Despite the fact that they are all based on the same technology and processes, numerous subcategories within IVF are given and referred to by different names.

The kinds of IVF treatments include but are not limited to:

Conventional IVF

After retrieval and collection, the sperm and egg are placed in a petri dish to fertilize "naturally."

ICSI (Intracytoplasmic Sperm Injection)

An innovative method of fertilization in which sperm is loaded into a micro needle and injected directly into the egg.

ESET (Elective Single Embryo Transfer)

Only one embryo is transferred in this method. Multiple pregnancies have the same success rates as single pregnancies, but the latter poses a lower danger to the mother and the fetus.

Reciprocal IVF

Embryos generated from one spouse's eggs are implanted into the womb of the other partner in this IVF variation for lesbian (or trans males) couples.
