Egg freezing at Beverly Hills Fertility can give you the confidence to start a family at your own pace

Starting a Family

Egg Freezing is an option that can provide you with peace of mind regarding your timeline for having children.

The decision to freeze eggs is a personal, social and emotional one. Knowing this, the first thing we will talk with you about at your consultation is where you are currently in your life, your relationships, and your career. If you don’t foresee yourself trying to start a family right now, egg freezing can relieve you from the pressure of feeling like you’re working against the biological clock.

Considering Egg Freezing: What You Need to Know

Oocyte cryopreservation, called egg freezing, allows women to harvest their eggs now for the possibility of using them to get pregnant at a time when they feel ready. It is simply a safeguard as every woman’s proportion of normal eggs decreases after age 35. You may not experience any difficulty getting pregnant when you are ready. But if you have trouble when the time comes, your younger eggs can help immensely as a higher proportion of them will be genetically normal.

The egg freezing process only takes about 2 weeks. You will take medications that will stimulate multiple eggs to grow and mature within the ovaries, rather than just one. Then, under anesthesia, the doctor will extract each egg from the ovary using a carefully placed needle. The eggs are evaluated by the embryologist and frozen.

A woman who freezes her eggs is effectively saving the potential of her eggs for the future — eggs frozen from a 30-year-old woman will always function as if they originated from a 30-year-old, even if they are not utilized for another 10 to 15 years.

Who can benefit from Egg Freezing?

Many women choose to freeze their eggs as a way to ease their minds about starting a family in the future. For those who are looking for a partner, egg freezing can relieve some time pressure and allow women to date for the right reasons. Egg freezing is also beneficial for women to preserve their fertility before undergoing medical treatments such as chemotherapy or radiation.

When should I freeze my eggs?

Before age 35, fifty percent of a woman’s eggs are genetically normal. As we age, fewer eggs become genetically normal and by age 40 only ten percent of eggs are able to make a baby. Choosing to freeze eggs in your early thirties gives you the greatest number of eggs that are capable of making a baby.
